“Se és capaz de aceitar seus alunos como são, em sua realidade social, humana e cultural; se os leva a superar suas dificuldades, limitações ou fracassos, sem humilhações, sem inúteis frustrações; se os estimulas a emitir opiniões, mesmo se contrárias às suas; se te emocionas com a visão de tantas criaturas que de ti dependem para desabrochar em consciência, criatividade, liberdade e responsabilidade.

Então podes dizer: sou mestre.” (Rui Barbosa)

Religion in Nigeria
Religion in Nigeria just like many multi cultural countries, has a number of religious movements and practices. But Nigeria’s (or naija if you like) religious movements and practices are mainly Christian, Islamic and traditional or indigenous groupings.
In Nigeria the head of the Islamic religion is the sultan of the Sokoto caliphate who along with a number of emirs, preside over the affairs of the religion in the North.
In southern Nigeria there is no recognized supreme religious Authority although majority of Muslims bare allegiance to the sultan, they however also operate independently without necessarily being subjects to him.

Christianity in Nigeria

In the southern part of Nigeria consisting of the Yoruba, Igbo and other minorities from the Niger delta region and parts of the middle belt region that falls into the south of Nigeria, Christianity is the predominant religion.
Up until the late 1980’s most of the Christian religious movements were the orthodox churches such as the Anglican, catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodists among other church movements that date back to the pre- 20th century era.
These days most Pentecostal churches teach prosperity, earthly success and maximize the use of flamboyant, colourful methods to drive home their points.

There is no known number of indigenous faiths or practitioners however they are not as numerous as the other movements in the big two religions of Nigeria.
Nigerian Food - Green vegetables with aromatic spices.
Nigerian food make up some of the most popular of all African cuisine. They are often in the form of thick rich green vegetables cooked with aromatic spices and garnished with assorted meat or fish.

soup cooking
Examples of these vegetables stews inlcude, Efo riro, Ewedu and Ofe onugbu from Igbo land. These vegetable dishes are eaten with a choice of cassava or yam flour processed into a soft dough with hot water

Some of the common native ingredients used include vegetables like Spinach, Ewedu (jute leaves) and Melon seeds(Egusi), garnishes like shrimps, crabs, stockfish and snails with tomatos, onions and small chilli peppers to make red stew.

Edikai Ikong with Pounded yam
Appetisers include barbecued meat like Asun or Suya and Pepper soup, which is made from a selection of aromatic spices and chilli peppers with meat or fish. I really like Cat fish pepper soup, it tastes really delicious and it’s spicy.
Preparing the foods can be easy once you have the ingredients and the right recipes.
Nutrition wise foods in Nigeria are a combination of high energy inducing carbohydrates as in Yam or Cassava, vitamins and minerals in vegetables and protein from assorted beef or fish.
